Awake

He's awake. Doesn't seem to thrilled about it, but he's awake. The paralytic was discontinued yesterday and today they started slowly weaning him off one of his 2 sedation drugs. He's awake for a little bit every few hours, but you can tell he's still heavily drugged. He wiggles a lot, which is good, and wiggles even more when I talk to him, which warms my heart.

The past 24 hours have been a bit of a roller coaster. He was having trouble keeping his sats up. They tried all sorts of things and his sats would come up and slowly drift back into the mid 80s. Around noon today they finally decided maybe the ventilator settings weren't allowing him enough time to exhale between breaths and he was getting a build up of CO2. They cut back on the number of breaths per minute and he's been golden ever since.

Starting about half an hour ago, he's getting breast milk through his NG tube. We'll see how he tolerates it.
